Preston has over 30 years experience in public accounting, providing assurance, tax and consulting services. He has also worked three years outside of public accounting and understands what it is like to be the client.

Preston's three years of industry experience were with the Salt Lake Clinic. He served as the Director of Finance for the clinic during those years and also served as trustee for the two clinic retirement plans. Also during his tenure at the Clinic, he was in charge of the analysis that led to the Clinic purchasing its first in house computerized patient billing system.

Mark joined Hansen, Barnett & Maxwell in 1993 upon graduation. While attending Weber State University, he also worked for the IRS. He has a great deal of experience conducting audits under the Public Companies Oversight Board (PCAOB), Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), and State of Utah Compliance. He is also very involved in the audits of privately held companies.

Mark recently led one of our clients in Oklahoma through the execution of an exit strategy that led to a sales price of approximately $1.1 billion.

Newell Johnson is a tax principal. Newell has over 39 years of experience in public accounting in both the audit and tax areas.

Newell's experience includes many years of direct responsibility for compliance and tax planning for clients in a wide variety of industries.

He has served in various management positions with Hansen, Barnett & Maxwell, including President and Managing Principal, member of the firm’s executive committee and director of the firms tax department.

Newell graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Utah. Newell is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants (UACPA). He has been a member of the Salt Lake Kiwanis Service Club for more than twenty years and has served in various leadership positions in the organization, including President and Board Member.
